Balancing work and caregiving
Caring for someone you love sometimes happens gradually, without you necessarily realizing it. Then, you don’t ask yourself too many questions: you’re the only one who can support that person, or you feel it’s your role or your duty because of the bond that connects you.
But recognizing yourself as a caregiver is an important step toward better identifying our needs and the resources available to support us.
In this clip, Valérie shares how caregiving has played a role in her life and the challenges it has created for her, including having to balance this role with work. Mélanie Montpetit, a psychosocial worker at the Groupe des aidants du Sud-Ouest (GASO), then presents the implications of this role, along with a few practical tips to make everyday life a little easier.
This capsule is for you if you care for a loved one and:
Are you wondering whether you are indeed a caregiver?
You’re worried about mentioning this role in your workplace, for fear of being judged or penalized.
You feel caught between two loyalties: being a high-performing employee or being a present caregiver.
Your current pace leaves you little time to rest
