« I feel like my days never end. Between work, medical appointments, phone calls, groceries… I don’t have time to catch my breath. »
This feeling of being overloaded is very common in a caregiving context, and it becomes even more intense when it’s combined with a job.
Indeed, caregiving is more than a task added to daily life: it is an additional role in its own right. It often involves an accumulation of responsibilities on top of work… and everything else!
But no one should have to carry it all alone.
In this segment, Anne-Jennifer, a caregiver, shares how this accumulation of responsibilities can weigh heavily and cause fear, stress and exhaustion. To help us make sense of it all, Stéphanie Ouellet, a psychosocial worker with Groupe des aidants du Sud-Ouest (GASO), breaks down the multitude of burdens one can carry as a caregiver.
Understanding the true scope of this role is the first step toward regaining control and finding ways to lighten the load.
