The Groupe des aidants du Sud-Ouest (GASO) offers, twice a month, Music and Well-being workshops specially designed for caregivers. Dive into this soothing world and discover all the details in this article, taken from an exclusive interview with Annabelle Brault, certified music therapist and facilitator of these workshops.

What is the Music and Well-being workshop?

Music therapy uses music as a means of expression and connection to promote well-being. It relies on the communicative, expressive, and creative dimensions of music, adapting techniques to each person's preferences to provide personalized and secure support (AQM, 2019).

How does a workshop unfold?

Each session follows a structure that includes an opening activity, a roundtable discussion, a central music therapy experience, and a closing moment. Participants explore various activities such as song sharing, music with guided imagery or movement, lyric analysis, writing or drawing, musical improvisation, and exploring musical tools to promote daily well-being.

And what about creativity?

Music and Well-being workshops offer caregivers a relaxing moment where music is used as a tool for creativity, communication, and rejuvenation. Focused on resilience and well-being, these workshops encourage the exploration of new perspectives through creativity, requiring no musical skills, just an open mind.

What are the benefits?

Music therapy helps caregivers maintain their emotional and social well-being. By combining receptive and creative musical experiences, it reduces distress, isolation, and burnout while promoting self-awareness, emotional regulation, relaxation, creativity, adaptation to changes, resilience, quality of caregiving relationships, and a sense of support among participants.

Testimonials or anecdotes:

Over the years, I've discovered a multitude of artists thanks to the workshop participants, and I am deeply grateful for that. It's a real joy to observe how participants gradually integrate music into their daily lives more intentionally, thus contributing to their well-being and balance.
