Thoughts related to respite services

Feb 1, 2026
Taking a break for yourself isn't always easy to imagine or achieve.
Imagine… You have three full hours just for yourself. Your loved one's needs are being taken care of, and for once, you don't have to worry about them. What would you do?
Here are a few ideas to inspire you. Create a small bank of activities that make you feel good and add your own ideas, thinking back to what brought you joy and rejuvenation before caregiving. You might rediscover habits that still suit you.
🌿 Lise chooses to take a walk with her dog. She enjoys the fall colours, takes time to breathe in the fresh air and smell the trees, all while stretching her legs.
☕ Gilles decides to call a friend he hasn't seen in a year. They meet up at a small local café to chat, laugh, and maintain their precious friendship.
🌸 Sophie treats herself to a break to reconnect with a neglected passion: yoga. She believes this activity will allow her to take care of herself and regain her balance.
🌱 Rita spends some time in her garden, where she grows beautiful roses. After her efforts, she prepares a hot bath and settles in with a good book she's been dreaming of reading for a long time.
☎️ Gina, on her part, decides to call her brother to update him on her caregiving situation and discuss his upcoming availability to offer her a bit of a break.
Taking care of yourself can involve simple little gestures. A break allows you to recharge and reconnect with your interests, often set aside due to caregiving. Maybe these examples will inspire you to grant yourself, too, a well-deserved moment of pause.
And you, what would you like to give yourself during this moment of respite and why?
