Gently taking care of your hormonal health

Jul 30, 2025
After defining hormonal health, we will suggest psychosocial ways to help you take care of it. However, we will not provide medical advice, such as taking hormones or specific foods, as we do not have expertise in this area. We invite you to consult a healthcare professional if you wish to learn more.
We wish to emphasize that the intention of focusing on hormonal health is not to add a burden by rigorously tracking your cycle, but rather to consider it as an important factor that can influence mood and the ability to accomplish certain tasks. Therefore, we offer you ways to foster balance, keeping in mind that experiencing hormonal fluctuations throughout a cycle is normal, and that constant balance is neither realistic nor expected.
Move, even just a little
When you get your heart and muscles engaged, the body releases hormones that help regulate hormonal imbalances related to the menstrual cycle.
Try to be attuned to your needs: sometimes, it will be to walk slowly, and other times, to adopt a more active pace. You are the best person to know what suits you, not your neighbor who thinks they know what's best for you!
Prioritize, as best as you can, a good night's sleep
One of the best ways to ensure a restorative night is to pay attention to the hour before bedtime. This time allows the body to "understand" that it is preparing for rest and thus to release hormones that promote sleep.
For example, it can be useful to finish your meal earlier in the evening, so the digestive system is at rest during the night, or reduce screen exposure, as their light slows the release of sleep-related hormones.
P.S.: There is no need to pressure yourself to "do it right." Your possible is enough. As a caregiver, you are in a very demanding role, which often offers little flexibility.
Allow yourself to do a little less
There is a limit to what we can do to relieve symptoms: part of it belongs to our biology, over which we have no control.
Sometimes, the only solution is to give yourself permission to let go, to lower expectations of yourself to allow the body and mind to recover... as best as you can!
